Community Asphalt, a subsidiary of the Spanish construction firm OHL, won a $ 110 million contract from the Florida Department of Transportation to broaden and revamp a 17 kilometer stretch of US-1. The job may also include an additional $ 38 million for work on other stretches of the highway.
The company will be the first to work on a U.S. infrastructure that has not been put up for bid. Community Asphalt, asked for the job and offered to do it in two years, rather than the five years set on the State calendar.
After making the offer and waiting the statutory 60 days for other companies to present a counter offer, the job was awarded to Community Asphalt.
