Almirall Plans to Introduce New Drug in Europe and the U.S. by End of 2011

The Spanish pharmaceutical Almirall announced that by the end of 2011 and start of 2012, it plans to introduce in the U.S. and Europe, together with partner Forest Laboratories, its new drug aclidinium bromide used in the treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

The company indicated that the initial registry, planned for the fourth quarter of this year or first quarter of next year, had been pushed back after agreeing with Forest on a future strategy for aclidinium bromide when the FDA and European safety regulators requested additional information.

Almirall and Forest came up with a program for a higher dose of the drug to be taken at more frequent intervals that would satisfy the requirements of the American and European regulators.
