The American magazine Petroleum Economist has named Spanish company Repsol YPF as the Energy Firm of the Year, for its achievements during 2008, according to a company statement.
The group chaired by Antonio Brufau explains that the design and development of its strategic plan, which provides for greater diversification of activity and increased exploration activity has been one of the critical elements for the award.
Repsol has participated in major discoveries in the world since the beginning of 2008, and by 2009 has already participated in 13 discoveries, among which are two of the ten largest in the world in that period.
The Brazilian oil company Petrobras won the award for most enterprising Exploratory Company of the Year, in which Repsol was also ranked among the four finalists, along with Tran Tierra Energy and Hungarian MOL.
