The Spanish manufacturer of Iberian hams and sausages Covap (Cooperativa Valle de los Pedroches) expects to receive the permits to export Iberian pork products to the U.S. in October, as the CEO of this food cooperative, Miguel Angel Diaz Yubero, announced in the newspaper El Día de Córdoba.
The manager said that the only pending step is getting approval from the health inspectors, a process that can occur following a visit to the company by technicians to be held within weeks .
Today Covap already has the necessary authorization for the export of cheese, whose U.S. sales account for 250,000 euros. Tthe opportunity to introduce now the Iberian pork products in the US becomes a big boost for the company, especially in these times, when the local market is showing its weakness. The U.S. is the most desired destination for any company in the industry for its large market.
The Spanish company is already exporting Iberian pork products to many countries such as France, Germany, Japan and Chile and dairy products to Tunisia, Greece and Portugal, among others. In 2008, the Spanish food coop has been selling its products in 23 countries and started opening new markets in Singapore and Austria.
