OHL Group, through its U.S. subsidiary Community Asphalt, leads the consortium that will build the largest highway interchange in Miami, after winning the bid for what is also the largest public construction project in the history of Florida's Department of Transportation (FDOT), according to a statement from the Spanish company.
The exchanger, which is budgeted at $ 560 million, will allow traffic movements from two motorways, the Dolphin Expressway and the Palmetto Expressway, in all directions without reducing the speed of traffic.
The project, once completed, will be an icon of modernity in the city of Miami, because of their size, with both highways reaching six lanes in each direction and supporting a peak traffic of 450,000 vehicles per day.
The contract was conducted though a Design-Build-Finance deal. Next to Community Asphalt, with 50% of the participation, the winning group is also formed by Condotte America, a subsidiary of Italian builder of the same name, and De Moya, a company with a broad and distinguished business history in South Florida.
