According to the Spanish website “Noticias del Vino”, Wine & Spirits Magazine has named Frutos Villar as Spanish Winery of the Year. The American magazine gave the bodega’s wines very high ratings: 93 points for the Muruve Reserva; 92 for Muruve Elite; and 90 for Muruve Crianza.
Jose Luis Villar, who heads the bodega’s foreign trade division, was on hand to accept the award at Wine & Spirits´ Best Wines of the Year tasting event in San Francisco.
Frutos Villar had an excellent track record in 2009 in Spain and especially abroad, where it received several awards. Some of the company wines were included among the “New Wave Spanish Wine” list, an initiative led by Master of Wine Tim Atkin, which names the year’s top 100 Spanish wines for British consumers.
Likewise, the Frutos Villar DO Rueda wine “Maria de Molina” was named one of the three best Old World white wines at the Irish Wine Show.
