The Spanish industry outlook for citrus fruit exports to the U.S. this year is good. According to the Port of Castellon concession company Fricasa that accounts for most of this kind of traffic, all signs point to an improvement over 2008 when 60,000 tons of Clementines were shipped to the U.S.
Exporters expect to make one or two shipments a week during the three-month campaign. The first week saw over 7, 000 tons transported on three boats: the Green Brazil, which carried 2,200 tons; the Green Nova with 2,126 tons; and the Global Harvest, whose load included 3,000 tons of citrus fruits.
If all goes according to plan, 15 ships will take part in the campaign that will be consigned to the companies Roca Castellon Consignaciones and Maritima del Mediterraneo.
