Abengoa Solar will build and operate a 250-megawatt solar power farm in California’s Mojave Desert. The Spanish company announced that it signed a contract with Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) to supply electricity generated at the new solar plant.
The 250-megawatt solar power farm will be located 150 kilometers north-east of Los Angeles, and will create 1,200 construction and 80 permanent jobs locally.
When the plant is in operation in 2013, it will produce the same amount of renewable energy that is currently generated by all commercial thermal solar installations in California, that is, enough to supply power to 90,000 homes and prevent the emission of 431 tons of greenhouse gases annually.
The “Mojave Solar” project will boost the local economy and allow California to meet its renewable energy objectives.
