Two Spanish Animated Films in the Race for the Oscars


The Hollywood Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released the names of the 20 films vying for a Best Animated Film nomination. Two of the films competing against such mega productions as Monsters vs Aliens, Coraline, Astro Boy and Pixar´s Up are Spanish: The Missing Lynx and Planet 51.

 

The Missing Lynx, produced by Antonio Banderas, has already been released in the United States and showed in theaters for a week.

 

Planet 51 is the story of an American astronaut who lands on a planet inhabited by green creatures. Spaniard Jorge Blanco directed the film and Joe Stillman, who received an Oscar nomination for Shrek, wrote the screenplay. Hollywood stars including Jessica Biel, Dwayne Johnson, Gary Oldman , John Cleese and Seann William Scott lent their voices to the film.
