LladrĂ³ Introduces Figurine of Patron Saint of Puerto Rico in New York

The Spanish firm Lladró was commissioned to design a porcelain figurine of the patron saint of Puerto Rico, Our Lady of Divine Providence, which will be on sale as of November 19th, the 516th anniversary of the founding of the island.

According to the company, the piece will be introduced at Lladro´s New York store by sculptor Juan Ignacio Aliena, who will demonstrate the techniques used to create the figurine, which is valued at $1,500.

The idea evolved after Angeles Lladró, a member of the company board of directors, visited Puerto Rico and heard Puerto Ricans speak about the importance of their patron saint and how they would like to have a replica of the Virgin made in porcelain. The Our Lady of Divine Providence figurine will be presented in Miami on November 20th at the Lladró store in that city.
