Dragados Bids on Miami Transportation Projects

The U.S. subsidiary of Spanish firm Dragados wants to increase its presence in the American market with urban transportation projects in Miami. Last October 26, Dragados USA and MCM, presented the Miami Dade Expressway Authority their plans to reconstruct Interstate 395, including the MacArthur Causeway bridge (Dragados), and replacing current tolls on State Road 836 with electronic toll equipment (MCM).

Javier Rodriguez, executive director of the Miami Dade Expressway Authority admitted that the offer appealed to him and that he was considering opening the project up to public bid. Although the Dragados USA and MCM proposal does not mention price, Rodriguez believes it could probably exceed $ 500 million; and if approved, it would be on the list of South Florida’s costliest transportation projects.

The Dragados and MCM proposals, which include designing, building and financing the project, would be completed in about 55 months, a relatively short period of time according to Rodriguez.
