Mondragón Takes its Cooperative Model to the U.S. and Canada

Mondragon Corporation has partnered with the United Steel Works (USW) to promote industrial cooperatives in the United States and Canada. The Spanish company announced that it plans to establish its business model in North America, where participation is expected to increase by over 1.2 million members.

According to Mondragon, the main objective of the agreement is to generate jobs in industry that help improve the quality of life of workers, their local communities and social surroundings.

There are currently 29,000 cooperatives in the United States that employ 80 million people and total 3 billion in assets.

Mondragon Corporation operates in the United States through a corporate office in Washington, 21 sales offices covering different industrial activities, and an Orbea bicycle production plant in Kansas.
