Since September 2005 the Catalan cooperative Agrolés, whose headquarters are located in Les Borges Blanques, has been selling its extra virgin olive oil “Romántico” in the United States. The product is distributed under the “Catalan Gourmet” brand name and can be found in 30 specialised gourmet stores. Sales are carried out through the company Agrolés USA, a company set up in April 2005 in conjunction with two local partners. The cooperative hold 51% of this company’s shares. In addition to its US exports, the cooperative from Les Borges Blanques also exports oil to countries such as Sweden, Canada, Germany, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, Norway, Denmark, the UK and Andorra. The cooperative has 4,000 members, the majority of which are from the province of Lleida, although there are also members from Aragon, la Rioja, and Navarra. Agrolés is specialised in natural handcrafted production of extra virgin olive oil and in almond farming. The average turnover is seven million euros.
